How much do you know about Grizzly Bears? Not that much? Well here are some cool things about the life cycle of Grizzly bears from birth, to adulthood. The mother Grizzly, is pregnant with her young for approximately 180 days! That’s about 6 months! Think of all that weight she has to carry around. Wow! When winter arrives, the mother bear will make a den. The mother will give birth during winter inside the den. By spring, the cubs will weigh about 25 pounds. The cubs have no hair and are blind. The cubs will be able to see by about 3 weeks after birth. In the spring, the bears leave the den and spend spring hunting and sleeping. When summer arrives, the salmon start to come up the river. If few salmon are coming up, they will eat every fish they catch. If a lot of salmon are coming up they will eat only the head and eggs if the fish is male or female. While the mother bear is hunting, her young are waiting for the food. If another cub enters another bunch of cubs, the mothers of the cubs will come and separate there young avoiding a fight. the grown bears who have dominance usually get the best fishing spot. When two bears have already fought, the bear that lost will just give up the spot. During the rest of summer and fall the cubs are just eating fish, meat, and soapberries. Finally it is winter, and the mother and two or three cubs will hibernate. This process will repeat four about 4 years and then the cubs will leave the mother because they are old enough to be on there own. I hope you learned something new from reading my essay about Grizzly bears.
