Interesting Facts: Lester Young was known for his work with the Count Basie Band and for his recordings with the famous
singer Billie Holiday. Lester nicknamed her ‘Lady Day’ and Billie named him
‘Prez’ for president of the
saxophone. He often held his sax in a horizontal position. Lester will probably always be remembered as a Kansas City jazz
man.
