Interesting Facts: After she won an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater, Sarah Vaughan was hired into the Earl Hines big band. She was one of the first singers to fully use the be-bop style, and had the ability to use her voice as well as  Charlie Parker used his saxophone.  She was also one of the great ‘scat’ singers in jazz.
